Kakulas Sister is a family owned business started by Eleni Kakulas in 1994 as an offshoot of her family’s business Kakulas Brothers. Eleni’s grandfather Evangelos and Uncle Stavros emigrated to Australia from Kastellorizo Greece in 1923 and opened Kakulas Bros in 1929.
After working many years in the family business from her early teens, through university holidays and after graduating, Eleni opened her own branch on the corner of Market and Leake St in Fremantle, hence the name Kakulas Sister.
She was later joined by her husband Michael Finn and moved to a bigger premises at 29-31 Market St, selling a similar range of beans, pulses, nuts and fruit, olive oils, spices, coffee and a great range of continental produce pitched to the multicultural demographic and health conscious Fremantle was known for.
Kakulas Sister situated in the heart of Fremantle has been selling authentic food from around the world for over 25 years. Today it’s a bustling grocery store with a vast selection of gourmet goods and whole foods both local and international.
In 2004 another store was opened in Nollamara, serving a similar demographic in northern suburbs of Perth. In 2015 Little Sister was created next door to the flagship store in Fremantle.
